First Auto-X on new Suspension

I just did my first auto-x on my newly installed suspension and all I can say is, "J**** F****** C*****!".

I have never before felt such a vast difference from a modification. Before, the suspension on my 96 GSR JRSC was bone stock except for tires (Yoko AVSi) and a crappy DC Sports rear strut tower brace. Last Monday, I had H&R OESport springs, KYB AGX adjustable shocks and an ST rear sway bar installed.

Yesterday, I autocrossed. Wow. Once or twice last season, I managed to inadvertantly get some rotation from my car, probably from unconcious trail-braking. Now, I get great rotation on every turn, and when I screwed up and did some trail-braking (I'm not a very good driver - braking is my worst problem), the car would start fish-tailing! I've never felt that on a FWD car before!

After my first run, which was after all of 50 miles driving on the new set-up, I was walking on air I was so psyched. My brother co-drove, and was also impressed. He said it was neutral and felt as good as his 240SX with fully prepped suspension.

With the power from the JRSC and the handling from the new goodies, I feel that my car's potential is now far ahead of my driving abilities. It's time to spend money improving myself instead of the car!

Here's how I ended up (remember, I've never been to driving school and this is only my second year):

I beat the B-Stock Miata's and the entire Street Touring class.

A top local driver in a DSP Integra GSR with i/h/e, pulleys, GC coilovers, race (400-500lb) springs, adjustable rear swaybar, roll cage, Quaife LSD and Kumho R compound tires beat me by only 2 seconds. I figure he had driving skill, LSD, R tires and killer suspension in his favor. All I had in my favor was an extra 50-60HP. I think he will be my target all year!

BTW, fastest course time was around 35 seconds (A-Prepared formula-type rocket), I scored 46 seconds, slower (D+) stock classes were in the 50's.

Unfortunately, my car was the only one in SM.

Sounds like a great day! Beating all the B-stock Miatas is quite an accomplishment. I can't beat the ones driven by the "good" drivers in my region. Congrats!!!

Just wait until you slap on some R compound tires. You'll get another 2 seconds.

And I totally echo what you said. My experience was much the same.

I really think the 2nd best mod is suspension.
